Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta described the assault on her during a public outreach programme as a cowardly act aimed at shaking her determination to serve the people of Delhi. She acknowledged that the incident left her shocked but emphasized that she was recovering and feeling better. Gupta reiterated that the attack was not simply directed at her personally but was an attempt to weaken the collective resolve to continue serving the citizens and working for their welfare.
Speaking on Wednesday after the attack during her Jan Sunwai programme at her camp office in the Civil Lines area, the Chief Minister firmly declared that such incidents would not halt her work. She assured the public that the Jan Sunwai initiative, which serves as a platform for citizens to voice their concerns, would continue without interruption and with the same seriousness as before. Her statement underlined her belief that the strength of her leadership lies in the trust and support of the people.
In her first response, shared through a post on X in Hindi, Gupta noted that although the assault initially left her shaken, her determination to serve the people of Delhi remained unbroken. She stressed that these kinds of cowardly actions could never crush her spirit or discourage her from fulfilling her responsibilities. Instead, she expressed her intention to return to her duties with greater energy, resilience, and dedication than ever before, assuring people that she would remain actively present among them.
She further highlighted that public hearings and the resolution of citizens’ problems would continue with the same commitment and seriousness, unaffected by the incident. Emphasizing her bond with the public, Gupta stated that their love, blessings, and support give her the strength to overcome any challenge. She requested her well-wishers not to inconvenience themselves by visiting her, assuring them that she would soon resume her work in the public domain. She also extended heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming affection and solidarity shown to her after the incident.
Meanwhile, authorities confirmed that the accused attacker was identified as 41-year-old Sakriya Rajeshbhai Khimjibhai, a resident of Rajkot in Gujarat. He has been detained and is currently being interrogated jointly by the Intelligence Bureau and the Special Cell of the Delhi Police. The investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the attack and ensure accountability.
