Ukrainian drones attacked Russian military installations and an oil refinery, killing three people

Ukraine launched a powerful overnight drone offensive targeting deep inside Russian territory, highlighting its growing long-range strike capabilities. The operation, one of Kyiv’s most ambitious to date, focused on key military and energy infrastructure sites across multiple Russian regions, resulting in at least three civilian deaths and significant property damage.

One of the primary targets was the Ryazan oil refinery, located around 180 kilometers southeast of Moscow, where a fire broke out following the strike. The Annanefteprodukt oil storage facility in the Voronezh region, close to the Ukrainian border, was also attacked. These facilities are crucial to Russia's energy logistics and supply lines.

In Penza, a drone struck the Elektropribor electronics plant, which is believed to manufacture components for Russia’s military-industrial sector. The explosion killed a woman and injured two others. In Samara, an elderly man lost his life when falling debris sparked a fire in a residential building. A security guard was also killed in the Rostov region during a blaze at an industrial site hit by drones.

Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces, working in coordination with the SBU intelligence agency, confirmed the deliberate targeting of high-value assets, including the military airfield in Primorsko-Akhtarsk. This base is a known launch site for Shahed drones that Russia uses in attacks on Ukraine.

Russia’s defense ministry claimed to have intercepted 112 Ukrainian drones during the nine-hour assault, including 34 in the Rostov region alone. Despite these efforts, several drones managed to breach the air defenses, causing casualties and infrastructure damage.

Meanwhile, Russia reported that its forces had taken control of Oleksandro-Kalynove village in Donetsk, although this claim has not been independently verified. The drone strikes mark a notable shift in Ukraine's strategy, relying increasingly on advanced unmanned systems to strike far beyond the frontline, disrupting Russia's war machinery and supply networks.
