A property dealer named Manoj Kumar tragically died in Faridabad after being run over by a Thar SUV allegedly linked to a local Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP). According to the victim’s family, the vehicle was being driven by the ACP’s son, and they accuse the police of shielding the accused instead of taking immediate action.
The fatal incident occurred when Manoj Kumar, returning from Vrindavan with friends, stopped at a restaurant in Sector 12. The family claims that the confrontation began after Manoj objected to the reckless driving of the Thar, which then resulted in his being crushed. Relatives insist that the death was not a mere accident but the result of negligent and intentional behaviour by the driver.
Manoj’s sister highlighted that, despite the incident occurring near a police station, it was not reported for almost 12 hours. She alleged that authorities already have information about the accused but have refrained from acting due to the family’s police connections. The family has expressed deep distrust in the investigation and continues to demand a thorough and impartial inquiry to ensure accountability.
The police have not yet issued any official statement regarding the incident. This case adds to a string of recent accidents involving Thar SUVs across India, which have repeatedly resulted in fatalities and serious injuries. Recent examples include a Lucknow crash killing two people and injuring six, a fatal collision in West Delhi’s Moti Nagar, and hit-and-run incidents in Jammu and Noida, all involving Thar vehicles.
The rising frequency of such accidents has sparked public concern over reckless driving and road safety, particularly involving high-powered SUVs like the Thar. In Manoj Kumar’s case, the added dimension of alleged police protection for the accused has intensified calls for an independent investigation.
