A shocking incident took place in Maharashtra’s Sangli district on Sunday night when a gang of four people, including a woman, posed as Income Tax officials and looted the residence of Dr. JD Mhetre, head of Gurukrupa Hospital. The doctor lives above his hospital, and at the time of the incident, he was at home with his wife.
The gang arrived around 11 pm, initially pretending to be relatives of Dr. Mhetre who had brought a patient. When a hospital compounder went to inform the doctor, the four followed him inside, forced their way into the house, and confronted the couple. To gain credibility, they allegedly flashed fake Income Tax IDs and a warrant, making it appear like an official raid.
Once inside, the impostors began looting the house. They stole gold jewellery, silver items, and cash worth crores and even vandalised the property before escaping the scene. The incident has left the local community shocked, given the brazenness of the crime.
Police were immediately informed, following which senior officials, including Sangli District Superintendent of Police Sandeep Ghuge, reached the spot. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway to identify and arrest the culprits.
