A new political controversy has broken out in Bihar after the registration of an FIR in Darbhanga district involving some well-known opposition leaders. The case was filed at Singhwara police station based on a complaint by Gudiya Devi, a resident of Ward No. 7. She alleged that she had been cheated out of ₹200 while applying for benefits under the Mai-Bahan Yojana, a scheme that promised ₹2,500 to women applicants.
According to her complaint, the scheme was promoted in such a way that unsuspecting women were asked to submit sensitive personal details, including Aadhaar numbers, bank account information, and mobile numbers. She further claimed that Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav, Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Yadav, former RJD MLA Rishi Mishra, and former Congress candidate Maskoor Ahmad Usmani were connected to the scheme. Acting on this complaint, the police registered an FIR, and the local SHO confirmed the development.
In a separate but related case, another resident of Darbhanga, Chandrika Devi, wife of the late Bhikhari Sahni, also lodged a complaint highlighting the misuse of official welfare schemes. She alleged that her documents were taken from her, including Aadhaar, voter ID, and ration card details, with the assurance of helping her apply for benefits. However, she later discovered that her documents had been misused to apply for a widow's pension fraudulently in the name of Bhagmati Devi, a woman who had actually passed away in 1975.
Chandrika Devi called this a blatant case of cheating and document misuse, stressing that such fraudulent activities not only harm individuals but also undermine the credibility of genuine welfare programs. She has demanded strict legal action against those responsible and urged authorities to ensure justice is delivered.
