After a woman's head is discovered in a bay, the husband confesses to having chopped the body and dumped bits

A gruesome crime has come to light in Maharashtra’s Bhiwandi, where a man confessed to murdering his wife and dismembering her body after police discovered her severed head in a bay near the Idgah Road slum and slaughterhouse area. The shocking find was made on Wednesday, immediately prompting an investigation that led to the detention of her husband. He later admitted to killing her.

The victim was identified as Parveen alias Muskan, a 22-year-old woman who lived with her husband just a short distance away from the crime scene. Her severed head was recovered and sent for post-mortem examination at a sub-district hospital, where her mother confirmed the identity of the remains. Muskan had been reported missing for two days before the discovery, with her mother alerting police after failing to reach her and noting her husband’s lack of cooperation.

Investigators detained Muskan’s husband, Mohammad Taha Ansari alias Sonu, a 25-year-old driver. He confessed to slitting his wife’s throat, chopping her body into pieces, and dumping the remains in the bay. The couple had married two years ago but reportedly had frequent disputes with each other and with their in-laws. Muskan had eventually moved into a rented house near Idgah Bay with her one-year-old son.

Despite his confession, police remain skeptical about the true motive, as the accused has been giving contradictory statements. He claimed at one point that he killed her because she beat their children, while at another, he suggested she was involved in drug use. “It is difficult to believe the reasons given by the accused because he is changing his statements. The exact reason is not known yet,” said Shashikant Borate, DCP Bhiwandi.

So far, only the head has been recovered. The torso and other body parts remain missing, as does the murder weapon, which the accused claimed he threw into the water. Intensive search operations are ongoing, with forensic experts, the fire department, dog squads, and drone cameras assisting in the effort.

Police have also been scanning CCTV footage and relying on informers during the investigation. Residents reported that Muskan’s house had been locked for four consecutive days, further raising suspicion. Following his confession, Mohammad Taha was produced in court and remanded to police custody until September 11.

Authorities continue their search for the remaining body parts, as the crime has left the local community horrified and raised questions about the underlying causes of the brutal murder.
