Authorities in India have launched a large-scale coordinated operation against an ISIS-inspired terrorist module, leading to the arrest of five individuals so far. The joint operation, carried out by the Delhi Police Special Cell along with central agencies, is unfolding across several states, including Delhi, Mumbai, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, and Hyderabad. These raids are part of an extensive effort to neutralize the group, which officials say was actively plotting a major terrorist attack on Indian soil.
Among those arrested are two men identified as Aftab and Sufiyan, both residents of Mumbai, who were apprehended in Delhi. Subsequent searches of their hideouts in Mumbai uncovered weapons and materials used in the making of improvised explosive devices (IEDs). In a parallel operation, another suspect, Ashar Danish, was arrested in Ranchi, where officials discovered chemical-based IED-making material at his location. This indicates that several of the accused had specialized knowledge in creating chemical bombs, raising concerns about the scale and sophistication of the planned attacks.
Initially, authorities managed to arrest three suspects on Wednesday, two of them from Delhi. Later that night, additional evidence led to the capture of two more individuals, bringing the total number of arrests to five. These suspects are now confirmed to be spread across Delhi, Ranchi in Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, and Hyderabad, reflecting the wide operational network of the module.
Officials have stated that the arrested individuals were part of a larger, ISIS-inspired group with expertise in explosive manufacturing and intentions of carrying out large-scale violence. While the arrests mark a significant breakthrough, raids are still ongoing across all five states to track down potential accomplices and dismantle the module completely.
The Delhi Police Special Cell is expected to address the media later today in a press conference to provide further details about the operation, the materials recovered, and the future course of the investigation. The ongoing developments highlight both the seriousness of the threat and the determination of security forces to pre-empt any potential attack.
