Urban Company’s initial public offering (IPO) opens for subscription today, Wednesday, September 10, 2025, attracting significant investor interest. Ahead of the public offering, the company raised Rs 854 crore from anchor investors, with prominent participants including Government Pension Fund Global, Nomura Funds Ireland, Fidelity Funds, Florida Retirement System, and Amundi Funds New Silk Road. This early support underscores confidence from both domestic and global institutional investors.
Investor enthusiasm is evident in the grey market, where the premium for Urban Company shares has jumped from Rs 19 to Rs 36.5, suggesting a potential listing price of around Rs 139.5 per share against the upper price band of Rs 103. This implies expected gains of approximately 35.44% on listing day if the grey market activity reflects actual market conditions.
Urban Company operates an app-based platform providing home and beauty services, including cleaning, plumbing, appliance repair, beauty treatments, and massage therapy, all delivered by trained and background-verified professionals. The IPO comprises a fresh issue of Rs 472 crore and an offer for sale (OFS) of Rs 1,428 crore, totaling Rs 1,900 crore. The retail lot size is 145 shares, requiring a minimum investment of Rs 14,935 at the upper price band, while qualified institutional investors (QIBs) and non-institutional investors (NIIs) have larger lot sizes.
Market analysts highlight the company’s position in the large, underpenetrated US$60 billion home services market, with strong technology and brand presence giving it a first-mover advantage. However, concerns remain about profitability, as FY25 profits were heavily aided by tax credits, and core earnings are still weak. At a price-to-earnings ratio exceeding 60, the IPO is considered aggressively priced, particularly since a significant portion of proceeds goes to existing shareholders through the OFS.
Gaurav Garg of Lemonn Markets advises investors to “apply with caution,” noting that the offering is a high-risk, high-reward opportunity suitable for those with a long-term view and confidence in Urban Company’s ability to scale sustainably.
While the strong grey market premium signals investor excitement, experts recommend careful consideration given the high valuations, making this IPO best suited for long-term investors.
