In the case of the betting app, the ED summons former MP Mimi Chakraborty and actor Urvashi Rautela

The Enforcement Directorate’s probe into the 1xBet betting case has widened its net, summoning Bollywood actress Urvashi Rautela and former Trinamool Congress MP and actress Mimi Chakraborty for questioning. According to officials, Urvashi Rautela has been directed to appear before the ED headquarters in Delhi on September 16, while Mimi Chakraborty has been asked to depose on September 15. The summons marked a continuation of the agency’s efforts to interrogate prominent public figures who allegedly had links with or promoted the controversial online betting platform.

Sources within the ED have confirmed that both actresses will be questioned in connection with their association with the betting app, which has already drawn scrutiny for violating Indian laws. The investigation has taken on high-profile dimensions, with celebrities from the sports and entertainment industries under the scanner. Earlier, former cricketers Suresh Raina and Shikhar Dhawan were summoned, with Dhawan reportedly questioned for nearly eight hours over endorsement links tied to the platform.

The ongoing inquiry comes in the backdrop of the Centre’s recent legislation banning real-money online gaming, a move that aims to curb the growing influence of illegal betting networks that exploit digital loopholes. The 1xBet case has now become one of the most closely watched enforcement actions, with the ED examining whether endorsements or promotions by celebrities played a role in popularizing the platform among Indian users.

As the questioning progresses, the involvement of high-profile names has put the spotlight not only on the betting ecosystem but also on the responsibility of celebrities when associating with brands and platforms that may later be deemed illegal. The ED is expected to seek clarifications from Urvashi Rautela and Mimi Chakraborty regarding any financial transactions, promotional contracts, or direct involvement with 1xBet, which could form crucial evidence in strengthening the case.
