A Bengal railway employee was discovered shot dead; his wife passed away six months prior

In a tragic incident in West Bengal’s Chittaranjan railway township, railway employee Pradip Choudhury was found dead with a gunshot wound inside his government quarters on Sunday night. Eyewitnesses indicated that he may have died by suicide, though police have launched a full investigation to confirm the cause of death.

The case has drawn particular attention because it occurred six months after the murder of Pradip’s wife, Sanchita Choudhury, who was found with her throat slit in the same quarters, shocking the local community.

According to police and local sources, Pradip lived in the quarters with his son, Debaditya. On Sunday evening, Debaditya returned home around 8 pm to find the door locked from the inside. After repeated knocking yielded no response, he alerted the local vice warden and the Chittaranjan police. Upon breaking open the door, authorities found Pradip lying dead on the bed with a bullet wound to his head, and a firearm was recovered from the scene.

Police have sent the body for post-mortem examination and summoned forensic experts to investigate whether the death was a suicide or homicide. Pradip had previously been questioned in connection with his wife’s murder, but the case remains unsolved.

Local railway union leader Indrajit Singh, General Secretary of the Chittaranjan Railway Men’s Congress (CRMC), expressed concern over rising crime in the area, stating, “He is believed to have died by suicide. Police investigation is underway. The accused who killed his wife has not yet been caught. The administration should be more proactive and take action soon.”

The tragic sequence of events has left the Chittaranjan community in shock and raised questions about security and law enforcement in the township.
