Meerut police have apprehended a 20-year-old man, Jaanu alias Jaane Alam, for harassing and throttling a 14-year-old girl in the Kithaur area. The incident, which occurred on October 3, was captured on CCTV footage, later shared by the police on social media to raise awareness and solicit information.
Officials stated that the girl, who had come from Ghaziabad to visit her grandmother’s village, confronted the accused after discovering that he had secretly recorded her and circulated the video among villagers. When she demanded to see his phone, he allegedly grabbed her by the neck and misbehaved, escalating the confrontation.
During the arrest, the accused sustained a fractured arm while attempting to escape and has been sent for medical treatment. A case has been registered under the POCSO Act, and further investigation is underway to gather additional evidence and determine whether there are other victims. Police are also reviewing the CCTV footage and interviewing witnesses to strengthen the case.
