After a collision with a minor, a Dehradun vehicle driver was beaten to death; one was arrested

The incident involved an auto-rickshaw driver named Maan Bahadur in Dehradun, whose life tragically ended after a violent confrontation following a minor road mishap. CCTV footage that circulated widely online captured the sequence of events, showing a young boy sprinting onto the road and Bahadur attempting to bring his vehicle to a halt. Despite the boy suffering no serious injuries, the situation escalated dramatically, ultimately costing Bahadur his life.

According to the footage and eyewitness accounts, the moment the auto came into contact with the child, panic and anger overtook the scene. The child’s family members, instead of assessing the boy’s condition calmly or seeking immediate medical help, reportedly pulled Bahadur out of his rickshaw. What followed was a brutal physical assault in broad daylight, carried out in public. The assault inflicted severe injuries, and Bahadur later succumbed to the trauma, leaving behind a grieving wife and four children who are now dealing with emotional and financial uncertainty.

Speaking about the horrifying ordeal, Bahadur’s niece, Vidhi Gurung, recounted that the accused individuals not only assaulted him but also forcibly took him to their home. When Bahadur returned, his face was swollen, and he was visibly struggling from the beating he had endured. Gurung explained that the attackers allegedly misled Bahadur’s wife by claiming that the child had sustained serious injuries and required hospitalisation. They allegedly demanded ₹10,000 for the child’s supposed treatment and threatened legal action. Fearing the consequences, Bahadur’s wife arranged the money and handed it over to the family, unaware that her husband’s condition was deteriorating rapidly.

Once the true extent of Bahadur’s injuries became clear, his family reported the incident to the police. Following the complaint, authorities launched an investigation. The police have arrested Gajendra Singh, the father of the minor boy, while efforts are ongoing to locate and detain the other accused, identified as the child’s maternal uncle, Mani Prince. The case has sparked outrage in the region, with citizens expressing concern about rising mob violence and the consequences of impulsive aggression in emotionally charged situations.

This tragedy highlights a broader societal issue where disagreements and accidents are increasingly resulting in violent retaliation rather than lawful resolution. As the investigation continues, Bahadur’s family now grapples with the loss of a breadwinner and demands justice for a man who died in circumstances that could have been avoided had restraint and legal process been respected.
