Gujarat farmers are being oppressed by the BJP; Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann will join the Kisan Mahapanchayat

Kejriwal and Mann plan to address a major farmers’ gathering in Surendranagar, Gujarat, on October 31. The date also marks the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Their visit comes amid rising tensions over farmer protests in the state, and AAP has positioned the event as a symbolic demonstration of unity with agricultural workers who say they have been treated unfairly by authorities.

The Aam Aadmi Party intensified its criticism of the BJP government in Gujarat, saying the administration has used aggressive and punitive measures against farmers who raised their demands. According to AAP leaders, farmers have been subjected to police baton charges, arrests, and serious criminal accusations like attempted murder. They argued that the situation reflects growing dissatisfaction among citizens and predicted that the ruling government would face electoral consequences.

Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann stated that farmers in Gujarat have been facing targeted action simply for asserting their rights. They alleged that the police and state machinery have been misused to silence legitimate protests. The party argued that it stands firmly with the agricultural community and called the ongoing confrontation a struggle for justice and dignity.

AAP further remarked that political parties historically pay a price for mistreating farmers. In comparing the present situation with past events under Congress rule, party leaders argued that governments that are perceived as hostile to farmers eventually lose public support. They indicated that, in their view, the BJP is now entering a similar phase where public sentiment is shifting away from it.

Kejriwal also accused the BJP of tarnishing the image of farmers across states. He claimed that farmers in Punjab have been unfairly blamed for issues such as stubble burning, and he criticised the central government for allegedly delaying promised relief funds after the floods in the state. He reiterated that AAP will continue to align with farmers wherever they face hardship, and emphasised that voices demanding fair treatment should not be suppressed.

As part of their visit, Kejriwal and Mann intend to meet families of imprisoned farmers and discuss upcoming steps in the movement. The party highlighted its demand to abolish the Karda system, which it says exploits agricultural workers, and called for a legal guarantee ensuring the Minimum Support Price. AAP leaders alleged that protest locations in Gujarat have been heavily fortified and that multiple activists and supporters remain behind bars, including those who spent Diwali in detention.
