A 75-year-old farmer’s sudden death in Jaunpur has stirred suspicion and controversy in his village after it occurred just a day after his marriage to a 35-year-old woman. The man, identified as Sangru Ram, had been living alone since the passing of his first wife last year. Despite advice from villagers against it, he recently decided to remarry, citing his need for companionship and household support.
The marriage took place on Monday in a simple manner — a court registration followed by a temple ceremony. His new wife, Manbhavati, herself a widow with three children from her previous marriage, said that Sangru had promised to take care of her and her family while she managed the home. Villagers recalled seeing the couple together after the ceremony and noted that Sangru seemed healthy and in good spirits.
However, events took a tragic turn the very next morning. According to Manbhavati, the two had spent time talking late into the night after their wedding. By morning, Sangru’s health had suddenly worsened, and he was rushed to a nearby hospital. Doctors there declared him dead on arrival. The exact cause of death remains unverified, with no official medical explanation provided so far.
News of his sudden passing has shocked the residents of Kuchmuch village. While some believe it may have been a natural death due to his age, Sangru’s extended family is far from convinced. His nephews, currently based in Delhi, have branded the death suspicious and demanded that no funeral rites be conducted until they arrive. They have also hinted at the possibility of foul play, though no direct allegations have been made against anyone.
The situation has placed the local administration in a difficult position. With tensions rising, villagers await clarity on whether the police will order a post-mortem or launch a formal inquiry into the circumstances of Sangru’s death. For now, the funeral has been stalled, and the family’s doubts have cast a shadow over what was meant to be a new beginning for the elderly farmer and his young bride.
