Mallikarjun Kharge, president of the Congress, was admitted to the hospital after feeling ill

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s sudden hospitalisation in Bengaluru has sparked concern among party workers and supporters, though doctors have assured that his condition remains stable. The veteran leader, aged 83, was admitted to MS Ramaiah Hospital after he developed a fever and experienced pain in his legs. Given his advanced age, physicians recommended a detailed medical evaluation to rule out any complications.

Hospital sources indicated that Kharge has been advised to undergo a pacemaker procedure, a step aimed at regulating his heart function and ensuring better long-term health. The Congress leader’s family confirmed that he is responding well to treatment and is under constant medical supervision. His son, Priyank Kharge, took to X to update supporters, reiterating that there was no immediate cause for panic and that his father’s health is being closely monitored.

Party leaders and colleagues have rallied around Kharge, expressing relief at the doctors’ reassurances. Many senior Congress members highlighted that his role as party president and Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha requires him to balance a demanding schedule, which may have contributed to the strain on his health.

Reports from news agencies added that Kharge’s condition is not critical, but the precautionary hospitalisation was deemed necessary. Sources within the party emphasised that doctors were monitoring him around the clock and would release a detailed medical bulletin soon.

This is not the first time the veteran politician has faced health-related interruptions. Just last year, Kharge suffered a bout of dizziness during a public rally in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua. At that time, he reassured supporters with his trademark wit, declaring that he would live long enough to continue his fight against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

For now, Congress cadres are anxiously awaiting the hospital’s official statement. Many see Kharge’s recovery as essential not only for the party’s leadership but also for maintaining a stable opposition front in Parliament, especially at a time when political battles are intensifying across the country.
