In a tragic turn of events in Rajasthan’s Sikar district, five members of a single family were discovered dead inside their flat at Anirudh Residency, in what police suspect to be a case of mass poisoning. The shocking discovery was made after neighbours complained of a foul smell coming from the locked flat, prompting authorities to intervene.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Suresh Sharma confirmed the incident, stating that the police team broke open the door and found the decomposed bodies of all five family members inside. “A forensic team has been called to collect evidence, and further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause and sequence of events,” Sharma said. The scene suggested that the deaths had occurred several days earlier.
According to police officials, the deceased were identified as Kiran (35) and her four children—Sumit (18), Sneha (13), Ayush (4), and Avnish (3). They had reportedly been living in the flat for some time following a dispute between Kiran and her husband. Sikar Sadar Police Station SHO Indraj Marodia noted that the advanced state of decomposition indicated that the deaths likely occurred two to three days before being discovered. “Initial evidence points to poisoning, though we await the forensic report for confirmation,” he added. The woman’s relatives have been informed, and statements are being recorded as part of the ongoing investigation.
The devastating case in Sikar is not an isolated incident. In a separate but equally distressing event in Jaipur, eight people across two families allegedly took their own lives in unrelated cases spread across Jaipur and Sikar districts. Among them, an elderly couple and their adult son were found dead inside their rented residence in the Karni Vihar area after their landlord grew suspicious when the house remained locked throughout the day.
Karni Vihar Police Station SHO Hawa Singh identified the deceased as Rupendra Sharma (63), his wife Sushila Sharma (58), and their son Pulkit Sharma (32). Preliminary findings suggest that the trio consumed poison on Friday night. “The family had been facing severe financial stress, which might have driven them to take this step. The matter is under investigation,” Singh said.
The two incidents, unfolding almost simultaneously, have shocked local communities and raised serious concerns about mental health, financial distress, and the social isolation many families face in urban Rajasthan. Authorities have urged residents to report signs of distress or unusual behaviour among acquaintances to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
