At the request of his girlfriend's family, a man drinks poison to show his love for her and perishes

A 20-year-old man from Chhattisgarh’s Korba district died after allegedly consuming a poisonous substance at the insistence of his girlfriend’s family, who reportedly challenged him to prove his love for her. The deceased, identified as Krishna Kumar Pando, had been in a relationship with the girl for some time.

According to police sources, the girl’s family learned about the relationship and summoned Pando to their home on September 25. Once he arrived, they allegedly pressured him to consume a toxic substance as a test of his commitment. Believing it to be a way to prove his love, Pando ingested the substance but soon began to feel unwell. He later informed his family about what had happened.

His family rushed him to the district hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The victim’s relatives have accused the girl’s family of coercing Pando into consuming the poison, leading to his death. A case has been registered, and the police have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances and verify the allegations.

The shocking incident has drawn parallels to a previous tragedy in Uttar Pradesh, where a young couple took their own lives following family opposition to their relationship. In that case, the woman hanged herself after her partner refused to marry her due to family pressure, and the man, consumed by guilt, later took poison. The incident had also led to legal action initiated by the woman’s family.
