Video: RSS chairman says POK needs to be reclaimed, comparing it to a room in our home

Mohan Bhagwat’s remarks, made at the inauguration of a gurdwara in Satna, sparked discussion across political and social spheres, as they emphasized national unity and the reclamation of lost territories. By likening POK to a “room” in India’s home that has been “usurped,” he reinforced the idea of territorial integrity while avoiding direct reference to military action.

Bhagwat also reflected on the trauma of Partition, urging the younger generation to remember the Sindhi community’s choice to stay in India rather than migrate to Pakistan. He framed this historical context as a lesson in belonging and shared heritage, emphasizing that divisions of language, region, or faith are artificial.

Addressing the broader theme of national identity, the RSS chief asserted that all Indians are fundamentally one, describing language and sect as superficial differences imposed historically, particularly during colonial rule. He highlighted the importance of linguistic inclusivity, suggesting every citizen should be proficient in three languages: the local language, the state language, and a national language.

Bhagwat’s speech comes amid a heightened focus on POK in national discourse, following Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s statement that India could reclaim the region “without aggression,” citing local demands for freedom from the current administration. His comments intertwined historical memory, cultural unity, and national aspiration, reflecting the RSS’s centenary emphasis on collective identity and territorial reclamation.

Political analysts noted that his rhetoric was designed to invoke emotional and historical ties rather than serve as a direct policy statement, yet it aligns with ongoing debates over national sovereignty and regional integration in India.
