A political worker linked to the Jan Suraaj campaign, Dularchand Yadav, was killed in Mokama during election campaigning. He had previously contested from the Mokama Assembly seat and was canvassing for Prashant Kishor's party when the attack occurred in Taratar village. Police stated that Yadav was first shot in the leg and then run over. Officials confirmed that every lead is under review and all complaints related to the incident are being examined as part of the investigation.
The killing has sparked political tension ahead of the Assembly elections. JDU candidate Anant Singh alleged that the incident was a planned conspiracy by former RJD MP Surajbhan Singh, husband of RJD nominee Veena Devi. He claimed that while his convoy was moving through the area, supporters of another candidate provoked them with slogans. He said his vehicles faced coordinated attacks and that Yadav was targeted at the start of the clash. He asserted that the confrontation was premeditated by his rival.
Jan Suraaj leader Prashant Kishor reacted by saying his party leaders were traveling to Mokama in response to the killing. He pointed to growing public support for change in the state and framed the incident as an indication of rising political hostility during the campaign. He highlighted what he described as mass engagement from young voters seeking transformation in Bihar’s political system.
RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav condemned the attack and urged political parties to maintain peace under the election code of conduct. He criticized the presence of armed individuals during the campaign period and accused political rivals of creating an atmosphere of fear due to anticipated defeat. He asked the Prime Minister to acknowledge the situation instead of invoking events from decades earlier, framing the incident as evidence of public frustration and insecurity.
Security has been tightened in Mokama following the attack. Police are working to identify the individuals responsible and determine the sequence of events that led to the killing. Authorities stated that action will follow once the investigation establishes clear responsibility for the violence.
