With Zoho mail, Amit Shah goes desi, revealing in the manner of Trump

Shah’s adoption of Zoho Mail has generated widespread attention on social media, with many netizens lauding the move as a push for homegrown technology and digital self-reliance. Analysts note that such endorsements by senior ministers could accelerate the integration of Indian software solutions across government offices, reducing dependence on foreign tech platforms.

Zoho’s rise in government circles has also been seen as part of a broader policy direction to promote ‘Digital India’ while supporting local startups and IT companies. Experts highlight that widespread usage by officials not only strengthens national cybersecurity but also showcases India’s capability to develop enterprise-grade software independently.

The shift comes at a time when global tech supply chains face uncertainty due to geopolitical tensions and tariff disputes. By moving to Zoho, ministries aim to ensure that sensitive communications and documents remain on a domestic platform, mitigating potential risks associated with foreign servers.

Zoho co-founder Sridhar Vembu has expressed optimism that the government’s adoption will encourage other sectors, including corporates and educational institutions, to explore Indian alternatives. “This is a validation of our long-term vision—building scalable, secure software that can serve the country’s needs,” he said.

With Zoho now being formally adopted by multiple ministries, officials are undergoing training sessions to familiarize themselves with the suite’s email, document, and collaboration tools. The transition is expected to be gradual, with phased implementation planned over the next few months to ensure minimal disruption to official workflows.
