A six-year-old student in Balrampur district, Chhattisgarh, was violently assaulted by his teacher for making a minor mistake during a maths lesson. The incident took place on Friday at Jawakhadi Primary School, where teacher Uday Yadav, who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, asked the student, Bhagirathi, to recite a number. When the child got it wrong, the teacher slapped him repeatedly, causing his face to swell and resulting in a blood clot.
The injured boy returned home in tears, and after his parents questioned him, he described the assault. His father, Dhananjay Yadav, immediately lodged a complaint at the local police station, stating that the teacher frequently comes to school drunk and that Friday’s incident was not an isolated case.
Police have registered a case and begun an investigation. The assault has sparked anger in the village, where residents say such behaviour harms children’s mental and physical well-being and jeopardises their future. Jawakhadi Primary School has around 30 to 35 students studying from classes one to five.
