Airports in Bengaluru and Thiruvananthapuram have issued travel advisories urging passengers to arrive early as security has been heightened nationwide following the car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort, which killed 10 people and damaged several vehicles.
The Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) in Bengaluru, in a post on X, advised travellers to plan their trips carefully and reach the airport well in advance due to increased security checks. The airport also requested passengers to remain in contact with their airlines for flight-related updates and allow extra time for baggage screening, verification, and boarding procedures. “We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we work together to keep your travel safe and seamless,” the statement said.
Similarly, Thiruvananthapuram International Airport announced that stricter screening protocols were being implemented for all departing passengers. The airport authority urged travellers to arrive earlier than usual and fully cooperate with security personnel to ensure smooth movement through the terminals. Officials reiterated that passenger and staff safety remains their highest priority.
The enhanced security measures come after a Hyundai i20 exploded near the Red Fort metro station on Monday evening, triggering fires in nearby vehicles and scattering debris across the busy intersection. The explosion has prompted an all-India security alert, with airports, railway stations, and other public facilities increasing surveillance and deploying additional personnel to prevent any further incidents.
