Gangster Anmol Bishnoi's NIA detention is extended by the court until December 5

A Delhi court has extended the National Investigation Agency’s custody of international gangster Anmol Bishnoi, younger brother of Lawrence Bishnoi, for another seven days, pushing the remand period to December 5. The development took place under extraordinary security precautions, as the remand hearing was shifted from Patiala House Court to the NIA Headquarters due to credible threats to Anmol’s life.

Security agencies assessed that transporting Anmol to court or producing him in an open courtroom could lead to an assassination attempt, especially from the rival Bambiha gang, which has a deep-running rivalry with the Bishnoi network. Concerned that any attack during transit or proceedings could trigger a major law and order crisis, authorities decided the judge would personally visit the NIA office to conduct the hearing in a secure environment.

Anmol Bishnoi, recently brought back to India from the United States, is a key accused in several high-profile crimes, including the killing of NCP leader Baba Siddiqui and the shooting outside actor Salman Khan’s Mumbai home. When the Patiala House Court first granted his custody to the NIA, it issued multiple safeguards to ensure transparency and inmate protection—mandating medical check-ups every 48 hours at a government hospital, full video recording of all transit routes, advance disclosure of those routes to the court, and access to legal counsel. The court also directed that Anmol be clearly informed of the grounds of his arrest.

The judge recorded that Anmol had already met his lawyer, undergone medical evaluation at IGI Airport, and received adequate time to review his arrest documents. However, given the ongoing threat perception, the NIA continues to follow heightened security protocols to prevent any retaliation attempt from rival gangs while Anmol remains in custody.
