In Nepal, new Gen-Z demonstrations break out, and the Bara district is under curfew

Authorities in Nepal’s Bara district re-imposed a daytime curfew on Thursday as tensions flared for a second straight day between Gen-Z protesters and cadres of former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s CPN-UML. The District Administration Office enforced movement restrictions from 1 pm to 8 pm local time, citing urgent public-safety concerns as the youth-driven agitation grew more intense.

The latest unrest began on Wednesday in Simara, where young demonstrators clashed with CPN-UML supporters during a protest. Although nearly a dozen UML workers were allegedly involved, police detained only two, a response that has angered Gen-Z activists who have accused authorities of shielding political groups.

The renewed mobilisation reflects rising discontent among Nepal’s youth, who played a decisive role in the nationwide protests that led to a change of government just over two months ago. Their current demands focus on accountability, fair policing, and an end to political interference—issues they say remain unaddressed despite the recent shift in power.
