Former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi has now been instructed to vacate her long-standing official residence at 10 Circular Road, marking a major shift for one of the state’s most recognisable political families. The order comes as part of the Bihar government’s broader realignment of official accommodations following the recent Cabinet expansion and updated housing entitlements.
Under the new allocation, Rabri Devi — who currently serves as the Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Council — has been assigned Central Pool House No. 39 on Harding Road. The allotment was issued by the Building Construction Department through Joint Secretary-cum-Estate Officer Shiv Ranjan, who confirmed that her present post entitles her to a different category of government housing compared to what she received as a former Chief Minister.
This means that the Lalu Prasad–Rabri Devi family must now relinquish the 10 Circular Road bungalow they have occupied for nearly two decades. The residence has been central to the Rashtriya Janata Dal’s political operations, serving as a venue for strategy meetings, media briefings, and visits by national leaders. Its symbolic and functional significance made it one of Patna’s most politically active addresses.
The family is expected to shift to the newly allotted Harding Road bungalow once the formal handover process begins. Officials noted that the reassignment is part of a wider reshuffling in which government residences are being updated for newly sworn-in NDA ministers and other office-holders according to revised protocol.
With this directive, the Lalu-Rabri household prepares to leave a residence that has been deeply intertwined with the political journey of Bihar’s most influential political dynasty.
