The TDP is accused by Jagan Reddy's party of vandalizing offices: a direct attack on democracy

YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Saturday accused leaders of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and supporters of Hindupur MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna of storming and vandalising the YSR Congress Party office in Hindupur, located in Andhra Pradesh’s Sri Sathyasai district.

Sharing a video clip of the alleged incident on X, Jagan described the violence as a direct attack on democracy, calling the assault on the YSRCP office a “barbaric act.” He said the visuals clearly showed a mob ransacking party property, destroying furniture, and damaging the YSR statue inside the premises.

Jagan Mohan Reddy also alleged that the police stood by without taking action, claiming that the silence of the law enforcement authorities amounted to tacit approval under Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s administration. He argued that this “absolute inaction” signalled a deeper problem — that the state’s security machinery was being misused to serve the ruling party’s political agenda.

According to him, the episode reflected the broader “brutality” of the ruling TDP in Hindupur, where, he claimed, Naidu’s leadership had emboldened mobs, encouraged violence, and attempted to silence political opponents through intimidation.

“A government that cannot protect the basic democratic rights of its opponents has no moral right to talk about governance,” he said, asserting that the attack was not only against YSRCP but against every citizen who values political freedom.

YSRCP’s Sri Sathyasai district president and former minister Ushashri Charan also condemned the violence, stating that the party would not be cowed down by threats or mob attacks and that it would continue its political fight.

Reports from the district suggested the vandalism may have been triggered by the allegedly inappropriate remarks made by YSRCP coordinator Deepika’s husband, Venugopal Reddy, against MLA Balakrishna. The comments reportedly angered TDP workers, who then retaliated by storming the YSRCP office and causing extensive damage.

The TDP has not issued an official response to the allegations.
