Nitish Kumar is set to be sworn in as Bihar Chief Minister for an unprecedented tenth term, marking a significant moment in the state’s political history. As part of the formation of the new NDA government, a total of 24 ministers from various allied parties will also take the oath of office. The group includes 14 ministers from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), eight from the Janata Dal (United), two from the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), and one each from the Hindustani Awam Morcha and the Rashtriya Lok Morcha.
Nitish Kumar’s record-breaking oath ceremony, scheduled for Thursday, follows the NDA’s impressive victory in the Assembly elections. With the BJP emerging as the single largest party, it has secured the highest number of positions in the cabinet. Among its inductees are state BJP president Dilip Jaiswal, Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, along with senior leaders such as Mangal Pandey, Nitin Navin, Ramkripal Yadav, Sanjay Singh ‘Tiger’, Arun Shankar Prasad, Surendra Mehta, Narayan Prasad, Lakhendra Paswan, Rama Nishad, Shreyasi Singh, and Pramod Kumar Chandravanshi.
Some leaders like Mangal Pandey and Nitin Navin are returning to ministerial roles, while the two Deputy Chief Ministers also feature on the list again. Ten of the BJP inductees are newcomers to the cabinet, including two women, Shreyasi Singh and Rama Nishad.
From JD(U), the eight leaders selected for ministerial roles include Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, Shravan Kumar, Vijendra Yadav, Ashok Chaudhary, Leshi Singh, Jama Khan, and Madan Sahni.
Hindustani Awam Morcha will be represented by Santosh Kumar Suman. The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) will have Sanjay Kumar (Paswan) from Bakhri and Sanjay Singh from Mahua taking oath as ministers. Rashtriya Lok Morcha’s presence will come through its nominee, Deepak Prakash.
Sources indicate that a further expansion of the Bihar cabinet is expected after Makar Sankranti on January 14, 2026.
This swearing-in ceremony comes nearly a week after the NDA secured a strong mandate, winning 202 out of 243 seats in the Assembly. The BJP captured 89 seats, JD(U) won 85, LJP(RV) finished with 19, HAM secured 5, and RLM obtained 4.
The ceremony will be attended by several national and state leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP National President J. P. Nadda, along with Chief Ministers from various NDA-governed states and other prominent figures.
