In Medak, Telangana, an unknown car strikes a two-wheeler, killing four people

A fatal road accident in Telangana’s Medak district left four members of a family dead on Sunday after an unidentified vehicle collided with their two-wheeler. The victims, one of whom was an eight-year-old child, were travelling from Hyderabad to Kamareddy with the intention of casting their votes in the ongoing sarpanch elections. Police confirmed that all four died instantly due to the impact.

Officers arrived at the scene shortly after the crash, and a full investigation has been initiated. Teams are working to trace the vehicle involved and determine the sequence of events that resulted in the collision. Authorities are also examining nearby routes and surveillance footage to narrow down the search.

The accident occurred on a day when the second phase of the Telangana Gram Panchayat Elections 2025 was underway. This stage of polling, which began on Saturday, is part of the statewide exercise to elect Sarpanches and ward members across rural regions. The first phase, held on Thursday, had already seen the election of thousands of local representatives.

For the second phase, the Election Commission had issued notifications for 4,331 gram panchayats. Out of these, 415 Sarpanches were chosen unanimously, while five panchayats received no nominations at all. Voting is therefore taking place in 3,911 gram panchayats in this round. The accident has cast a shadow over the polls, as the victims were travelling specifically to fulfil their civic duty when tragedy struck.
