Nitin Nabin, a minister from Bihar, was named National Working President of the BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday formally declared that Bihar minister Nitin Nabin has been appointed as the party’s National Working President, with the decision coming into force immediately. Nabin currently serves in the Nitish Kumar-led state cabinet, where he heads the crucial Road Construction Department, a role that has placed him at the centre of several major infrastructure initiatives across Bihar.

The announcement was made through an official order issued by BJP National General Secretary Arun Singh, who confirmed that the party’s Parliamentary Board had approved the appointment. The order stated that the leadership considered Nabin a suitable choice at a time when the organisation is undergoing a broader structural transition and preparing for its next phase of political mobilisation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended warm congratulations to Nabin, praising him as a committed grassroots worker who has built a strong reputation through steady organisational work and public service. Modi remarked that Nabin’s experience as a multi-term MLA and minister has earned him credibility within the party and among the electorate, highlighting his grounded working style and ability to connect with people in the field.

Modi added that with Nabin taking on this new responsibility, the party is confident of strengthening its reach and organisational depth in the coming years. His elevation marks a generational shift within the BJP’s central leadership framework at a time when the party is preparing for several major electoral battles across the country.

Nabin, who represents the Kayastha community, is widely expected to take over from incumbent national president JP Nadda. His appointment coincides with the end of Nadda’s extended tenure, during which he guided the party through significant political milestones, including the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Nadda, in a message posted on X, commended Nabin as a dynamic and dedicated leader from Bihar. He expressed confidence that under Nabin’s stewardship, and with the guidance of Prime Minister Modi, the BJP would continue to set new examples of organisational excellence, public outreach and nation-building.

Born on May 23, 1980, in Ranchi, Nitin Nabin hails from a family with a strong BJP legacy. His father, the late Nabin Kishore Prasad Sinha, was a prominent party leader and former MLA. Following his father’s passing, Nabin entered active politics and quickly established himself as a dependable organisational figure. He has since won the Bankipur Assembly seat five times in a row, beginning with a by-poll victory in 2006. In the latest 2025 Assembly elections, he secured a decisive win by over 52,000 votes.

Beyond electoral politics, Nabin has held influential roles within the party structure, including national general secretary, president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha in Bihar, and election in-charge for both Sikkim and Chhattisgarh. His combination of administrative experience, organisational strength, and youth outreach has been seen as an important asset for the BJP as it plans its future strategy.

According to his election affidavit submitted in October, Nabin declared assets of around Rs 1 crore, comprising both movable and immovable properties, including bank deposits, insurance policies, residential holdings and land. The affidavit also notes that he does not have any past convictions, and wherever legal cases are mentioned, the documents include complete details about their status as required by election regulations.

His elevation marks a significant moment for both Bihar’s political landscape and the BJP’s national organisation, signalling the rise of a younger generation of leadership within the party.
