Jailed activist Umar Khalid, currently behind bars in the Delhi Riots larger conspiracy case, has applied for interim bail so he can attend his sister’s wedding later this month. His plea requests temporary release from December 14 to December 29, noting that the wedding will take place on December 27 and that his presence is important for the ceremonies and family responsibilities.
The application has been submitted before the special UAPA court at Karkardooma, which is handling the conspiracy case. The court has scheduled the matter for consideration on December 11, when both the defence and the prosecution will present their arguments.
Khalid has been in judicial custody since September 2020 and has consistently denied involvement in the alleged conspiracy related to the 2020 Northeast Delhi riots. He has sought bail multiple times — including appeals before higher courts — but has not been granted relief so far.
A decision on this latest request for interim bail will be determined following the December 11 hearing.
