A cutting-edge government library opens in Punjab as part of the AAP's education revolution

In a significant step toward upgrading public education infrastructure, the Punjab government has inaugurated a modern, state-of-the-art government library in Bathinda under its flagship initiative Mission Pragati. The project represents another major development in the education-focused reforms being implemented by the administration led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, with an emphasis on expanding access to learning resources for a wide cross-section of society.

The newly constructed library spans an area of approximately 1.26 acres and has been designed to function as a comprehensive knowledge and learning center. Its primary objective is to ensure that quality educational resources, reading facilities, and preparation material for competitive and government examinations are easily accessible to students, job seekers, and members of the general public, regardless of their background.

At the core of the facility is a fully air-conditioned reading hall with seating capacity for around 350 people, providing a comfortable and distraction-free environment for extended study hours. The library is also equipped with dedicated digital and e-library sections, allowing users to access online resources, academic databases, and digital books. Free Wi-Fi connectivity has been provided throughout the premises to support online learning and research needs.

To further enhance efficiency and user convenience, the library has introduced an automated system for issuing and returning books. This technology-driven approach is intended to reduce waiting times, streamline library operations, and ensure seamless access to reading material for visitors.

Special arrangements have been made to promote reading habits among younger children through a dedicated kids’ reading zone, designed to create an engaging and age-appropriate environment. At the same time, students preparing for various competitive and government examinations will benefit from a wide selection of reference books, guides, and study materials curated specifically for exam preparation.

The initiative reflects the government’s broader vision of strengthening learning opportunities beyond traditional classroom settings. Through Mission Pragati, such libraries and educational facilities are being developed to support academic excellence, skill development, and equal access to knowledge across the state.

The Bathinda library is expected to emerge as a central learning hub for students and learners from across the district. By investing in such infrastructure, the state government aims to reinforce education as a key driver of social progress and economic development, while fostering a culture of reading, research, and lifelong learning.
