A Delhi court has issued formal notices to Mandira, the sister-in-law of Priya Kapur, and podcaster Pooja Chaudhary in connection with a criminal defamation complaint filed by Priya Kapur, who is the second wife of late businessman Sunjay Kapur. The court has directed both accused individuals to submit their replies by March 12, which has also been fixed as the date for the next hearing in the matter.
The case is being heard by the Patiala House Court, which took cognisance of the allegations after recording Priya Kapur’s statement. The court observed that a prima facie case existed, warranting the issuance of notices to Mandira and Pooja Chaudhary and calling upon them to respond to the accusations levelled against them.
In her complaint, Priya Kapur alleged that Mandira had made false, malicious and defamatory claims against her through social media platforms as well as in interviews with the media. She further claimed that these statements were amplified by podcaster Pooja Chaudhary and were made with the deliberate intention of tarnishing her reputation and causing serious harm to her public image.
The court noted that the allegations, if proven, could constitute criminal defamation, and therefore required a formal response from the accused parties. The matter has now been scheduled for further consideration on March 12, when the court will examine the replies filed by Mandira and Pooja Chaudhary and decide on the next course of action.
Sunjay Kapur, who passed away last year, was previously married to actor Karisma Kapoor before marrying Priya Kapur. The case has attracted public attention due to the individuals involved and the allegations of reputational harm arising from public statements and digital media content.
