A police raid in Prayagraj’s Kydganj area led to the busting of a sex racket operating out of a residential house that was allegedly rented from a woman IAS officer. The action followed repeated complaints from local residents who had grown suspicious of unusual activities at the property over a period of time.
According to police officials, neighbours had reported frequent movement of men and women at all hours of the day and night, which raised serious concerns. Acting on these inputs, a police team was constituted and surveillance was carried out before conducting a raid on the premises.
When the police arrived at the house and knocked on the door, there was no response from inside. After waiting briefly, the team forcibly entered the premises and found several men and women in objectionable conditions in different rooms. During the raid, four women and five men were apprehended from various parts of the house, including the alleged kingpin of the racket.
Police identified the main accused as Sarvesh Dwivedi, who was reportedly keeping watch outside the house at the time of the raid. He was taken into custody along with the others. Officials also recovered items believed to be linked to the illegal operation from the rooms during the search.
Investigators alleged that the house had been rented to Dwivedi around three months ago by a woman IAS officer for a monthly rent of approximately ₹15,000. As per the rental agreement, Dwivedi had claimed that he would be living there with his family. To avoid suspicion, he initially kept his family at the house for a few days before sending them back to their earlier residence in the Atrasiya area.
After his family moved out, locals reportedly noticed a change in activity at the property. According to police, frequent visits by unknown men and women began soon after, which eventually alarmed residents in the neighbourhood and prompted them to alert the authorities.
Of the four women apprehended during the raid, one is reportedly from West Bengal, one from Varanasi, and two from Prayagraj. All five men arrested, including the alleged kingpin, are residents of Prayagraj. Police said that legal proceedings have been initiated against all the accused and further investigation into the matter is underway.
