Another Hindu guy was burned alive in Bangladesh; his family claims it was a planned murder

A gruesome incident in Narsingdi district has led to serious allegations of a premeditated killing after a 23-year-old Hindu man was burnt alive inside a garage, intensifying concerns about the safety of religious minorities in the country. The victim, Chanchal Chandra Bhoumik, had been employed at the garage for several years and was well known in the area.

Chanchal hailed from Lakshmipur village in Cumilla district and had moved to Narsingdi in search of work. He was the middle son in his family and its sole earning member, making his death a devastating blow to his dependents. His family has alleged that the incident was not accidental but a carefully planned murder.

The attack reportedly occurred late on Friday night near the Mosque Market area, close to the Narsingdi Police Lines. According to eyewitnesses and local residents, Chanchal was asleep inside the garage when unidentified assailants allegedly poured petrol on the shutter from outside and set it ablaze. The fire spread rapidly, leaving him trapped inside with no chance of escape.

A video that later surfaced on social media appears to show a person igniting the fire from outside the shop, after which flames quickly engulfed the garage. Alarmed residents informed the fire service, and a team from the Narsingdi Fire Service rushed to the spot. Firefighters battled the blaze for nearly an hour before bringing it under control. Once the fire was extinguished, Chanchal’s severely charred body was recovered from inside the premises.

Eyewitnesses said the victim remained trapped for a prolonged period as the fire raged, describing his death as extremely painful. In the aftermath, Chanchal’s family strongly condemned the incident, calling it a “planned murder” and demanding the immediate arrest of those involved, along with the harshest possible punishment under the law.

The killing has created tension in the surrounding locality and once again raised fears among minority communities. Police officials said they have seized physical evidence from the scene and are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby locations. They added that the process of registering a formal case is underway and that all angles are being investigated.

Leaders of the local Hindu community have also denounced the brutal killing, urging authorities to swiftly identify and arrest the perpetrators. They have called on the administration to take concrete and effective measures to ensure the safety and security of minorities in the region.

The incident comes amid a troubling pattern of violence against minorities in Bangladesh in recent months. Following the death of anti-India radical student leader Sharif Osman Hadi, several mob attacks have been reported. On December 18, Dipu Chandra Das, a garment factory worker, was lynched and later set on fire over allegations of blasphemy. Days later, Amrit Mondal was beaten to death by a mob in Rajbari district on extortion charges.

More recently, Hindu trader Liton Chandra Das was killed in a mob attack in Kaliganj, while in another incident, fuel station worker Ripon Saha was crushed to death while trying to stop a vehicle from fleeing a petrol pump without paying. Together, these cases have deepened concerns about rising mob violence and the vulnerability of minority communities across the country.
