Newly surfaced video clips circulating widely on social media have brought to light deeply disturbing details surrounding the killing of Alex Jeffrey Pretti, a 37-year-old nurse in the United States who was fatally shot during a confrontation with federal agents. The footage captures the moments leading up to his death, showing Pretti being surrounded by multiple officials, forced to the ground, and ultimately shot, as shocked bystanders cried out in disbelief, repeatedly asking the agents what they had done.
One of the videos, recorded by a woman present at the scene, shows the incident unfolding during an anti-immigration operation in Minneapolis, carried out as part of the immigration enforcement drive under the Donald Trump administration. In the footage, at least six federal officers, identified as belonging to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), are seen attempting to apprehend Pretti. The video indicates that he was dragged to the ground by the agents, and while the struggle was still ongoing, one of the officials fired multiple gunshots, which proved fatal.
Witnesses at the scene, including protesters, reacted with alarm as the agents moved in. Some could be heard blowing whistles when Pretti was seized, apparently in protest or to draw attention to the situation. As shots rang out and Pretti collapsed, the woman filming the incident could be heard shouting in shock and anger, demanding to know why lethal force had been used.
Further context about Pretti’s life and background has since emerged. Born in Illinois, he was an intensive care unit nurse who worked at a Veterans Affairs hospital in Minneapolis. He was known among friends and family as a vocal critic of the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement policies and had actively participated in protests opposing ICE operations. Notably, he had joined demonstrations that followed the killing of Renee Nicole Good, a woman who died during an immigration enforcement action in the United States on January 7.
Speaking to Associated Press, Pretti’s father, Michael Pretti, said his son had no criminal history and was driven purely by concern for what he believed were worsening conditions in Minneapolis and across the country as a result of intensified immigration crackdowns. He described Alex as someone who cared deeply about people and was profoundly troubled by the way immigration enforcement was being carried out.
According to his father, Alex believed that practices such as detaining people on the streets and separating families were morally wrong. “He cared about people deeply, and he was very upset with what was happening in Minneapolis and throughout the United States with ICE, as millions of other people are upset,” he told the news agency. He added that his son felt compelled to protest because he believed such actions violated basic human values, which ultimately led him to be present during the operation in which he lost his life.
