Windows in JD Vance-Usha's Ohio home were broken, and a suspect was taken into custody

A late-night security incident was reported at the Ohio residence of JD Vance after an individual allegedly attempted to break into the property by smashing windows, triggering an immediate response from federal and local law enforcement agencies. The incident unfolded in the early hours and led to the detention of a suspect, though authorities said there was no indication that the residence was breached.

According to officials, the United States Secret Service alerted local authorities at around 12:15 a.m. after an officer observed a person moving rapidly near the property. The suspect was seen “running eastbound” in the vicinity of the home, prompting a swift deployment of officers from the Cincinnati Police Department along with Secret Service agents. Law enforcement teams quickly secured the area and detained a suspect shortly thereafter.

The incident took place at the vice president’s home in the East Walnut Hills neighbourhood, located on William Howard Taft Drive. Images from the scene later showed shattered windows at the residence, underscoring the seriousness of the attempted intrusion. Despite the visible damage, authorities said they do not believe the suspect succeeded in entering the home, and there was no indication of further attempts once police arrived.

In a statement shared on social media, Vance confirmed that his family was not present at the residence at the time of the incident, noting that they had already returned to Washington, DC. He described the suspect as an individual who appeared to be acting irrationally and thanked both the Secret Service and Cincinnati police for their rapid and effective response in handling the situation.

Vance also called for discretion in reporting on the incident, saying that his family makes a conscious effort to protect their children from the more intrusive aspects of public life. He questioned the necessity of widely circulating images of the damaged property, suggesting that such coverage adds little public value while affecting family privacy.

Authorities stated that there is no ongoing threat related to the incident and that investigations are continuing to determine the suspect’s identity and motive. Law enforcement officials emphasised that security measures functioned as intended and that the situation was brought under control without harm to anyone involved.
