Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will undertake two major infrastructure engagements in the state next week, including laying the foundation stone of north India’s first semiconductor manufacturing unit in Gautam Buddh Nagar on February 21 and inaugurating key sections of the Delhi–Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) along with the Meerut Metro corridor on February 22. The developments are being projected as significant milestones in the state’s push toward technological advancement and improved regional connectivity.
Speaking during the Budget Session in the Legislative Council, Adityanath highlighted Uttar Pradesh’s expanding infrastructure network and described the upcoming semiconductor facility as an important step toward transforming the state into a hub for advanced technology manufacturing. The project in Gautam Buddh Nagar is expected to strengthen India’s semiconductor ecosystem while supporting domestic electronics production and high-tech industry growth.
On February 22, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the remaining stretches of the 82-kilometre Delhi–Ghaziabad–Meerut Namo Bharat rapid rail corridor, completing the link between Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi and Modipuram in Meerut. Alongside this, the 23-kilometre Meerut Metro corridor, comprising 13 stations, will also be launched. Officials said the final phase includes a five-kilometre section in Delhi between Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar, as well as a 21-kilometre stretch from Meerut South to Modipuram.
The RRTS corridor connects several important stations, including Sarai Kale Khan, Anand Vihar, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Muradnagar, Modinagar South, Modinagar North, and Meerut South, forming a high-speed transit backbone linking major residential, commercial, and industrial areas across the National Capital Region. The project aims to significantly reduce travel time and improve daily commuting efficiency between Delhi and western Uttar Pradesh.
Adityanath contrasted the current infrastructure scenario with conditions prior to 2017, stating that travel between Meerut and Delhi earlier took nearly three hours and lacked adequate safety assurances. He noted that improved highways have already reduced travel time to around 45 minutes and that the rapid rail system will further streamline connectivity while enhancing commuter convenience.
Highlighting broader infrastructure growth, the Chief Minister said Uttar Pradesh now accounts for approximately 55 percent of India’s expressway network and possesses the country’s largest railway network. The state currently has 22 expressways, with seven operational, five under construction, and work ongoing on ten additional projects. Metro services are already operational across six corridors, with the Meerut Metro set to expand urban transit options further after its inauguration.
He also referred to progress in inland water transport, noting the development of the Varanasi–Haldia waterway and upgrades to terminals at Ramnagar, Chandauli, Mirzapur, and Ghazipur. In the aviation sector, Adityanath said the number of operational airports in the state has risen significantly, from two fully functional airports earlier to 16 airports today, including four international airports, while the upcoming Jewar airport is ready to become the state’s fifth international gateway.
Additionally, he highlighted the establishment of the country’s first Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) hub at Jewar, underscoring Uttar Pradesh’s emergence as a major logistics, connectivity, and infrastructure hub. The Prime Minister’s upcoming visits are expected to showcase the state’s ongoing transformation through large-scale investments in transportation and high-technology manufacturing.
