Actor Rajpal Yadav’s bail hearing in a cheque-bounce case is set for February 12, according to his manager Goldie, who said the family remains optimistic about his release. Goldie told India Today that the actor’s relatives are hopeful the court proceedings will result in Yadav being freed from jail.
Yadav is currently serving a six-month sentence ordered by the Delhi High Court in a cheque-bounce matter dating back more than a decade. The case stems from a reported loan of Rs 5 crore taken in 2010 from a Delhi-based businessman for Yadav’s directorial venture, Ata Pata Laapata. His lawyer has stated that Yadav surrendered at Tihar Jail last week after unsuccessful efforts over the years to arrange repayment.
Goldie also indicated that many members of the film industry have stepped forward to offer financial assistance. He mentioned that actors such as Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn had extended support, while filmmaker David Dhawan conveyed that his son Varun Dhawan would also help. Goldie stressed that backing has come from across the industry, noting that Sonu Sood publicly expressed solidarity. He further added that the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) issued a letter encouraging members to assist Yadav during this period.
Addressing speculation about Yadav’s niece’s wedding scheduled for February 19, Goldie clarified that the event had been arranged months earlier and would proceed as planned. He said the family chose not to delay the celebrations despite the actor’s legal troubles, expressing hope that Yadav would be able to attend if granted bail.
Before surrendering, Yadav spoke about his predicament in an interview with Bollywood Hungama, remarking that he had limited options due to financial constraints. He reflected on the challenges of navigating crises within the film industry, saying individuals often have to manage difficulties independently.
