A tragic incident occurred in Odisha’s Sambalpur district where a woman allegedly killed her two minor daughters before dying by suicide the following day, according to police officials.
The woman has been identified as Sanju Madki, a resident of Sargidihi village, which falls under the jurisdiction of Mahulipali Police Station in the Bamra block of the district.
According to preliminary information from police, the incident took place on Friday when Sanju Madki allegedly threw her two young daughters into a well, resulting in their deaths. Investigators later confirmed that the children’s mother was responsible for the act.
After the incident, the woman reportedly left the village, which prompted concern among residents and family members. The matter came to the attention of authorities when her husband approached Mahulipali Police Station and filed a complaint regarding the situation.
Following the complaint, police launched an investigation and began searching for the woman. Officers initiated a probe to determine what had happened to the children and to locate the mother who had reportedly disappeared after the incident.
Pradeep Kumar Dash, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Kuchinda, said that the investigation began immediately after the complaint was received. Police teams began examining the circumstances surrounding the deaths and conducted search operations in nearby areas.
On Saturday morning, Sanju Madki was found dead in another village. Her body was discovered hanging near a nullah, or small stream, in the area.
Police officials suspect that she died by suicide, although the exact circumstances are still being investigated. Authorities reached the location, recovered the body and initiated the necessary legal procedures.
Both the mother’s body and other evidence connected with the case are being examined as part of the ongoing investigation. Police are also trying to understand the events that led to the deaths of the children and the subsequent death of the woman.
Officials said further details will emerge as investigators continue to gather evidence and speak with family members and residents in the area to determine the circumstances that led to the tragic sequence of events.
