Police in Telangana said that at least five people, including former BRS MLA Pilot Rohith Reddy, tested positive for drug consumption after a late-night raid at a farmhouse near Hyderabad. The operation was conducted by the Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE) in coordination with local police authorities.
The raid took place late on Saturday night at the VMR farmhouse located in the Moinabad area, following intelligence inputs suggesting that narcotics were being consumed during a gathering at the property. The farmhouse is reportedly owned by Rohith Reddy.
According to Chevella Deputy Commissioner of Police Yogesh Gautam, officers moved in after receiving specific information that a drug party was taking place at the location. When the police team reached the farmhouse, they found ten people present, including one woman.
Among those attending the gathering were several individuals from political and business circles. Those present included Rohith Reddy, Putta Mahesh Kumar Yadav, a Member of Parliament from the Telugu Desam Party representing Eluru, as well as real estate businessmen and other professionals.
Police officials said that during the raid, one of the attendees, identified as Delhi-based real estate businessman Namith Mishra, allegedly fired shots into the air after noticing the arrival of the enforcement team. The gun used in the incident was reported to be a licensed firearm belonging to another attendee, Ritesh Reddy.
Authorities said the firearm was seized from the premises along with one live cartridge and one empty shell. Investigators are examining the circumstances under which the weapon was discharged and whether any legal violations occurred.
Drug screening tests were conducted on the individuals present at the farmhouse. According to police, five people tested positive for narcotics consumption. Those who tested positive include Rohith Reddy, Namith Mishra, Ritesh Reddy, Kaushik Ravi and Arjun Reddy.
Officials stated that blood samples from the individuals have been sent to a hospital for further laboratory analysis in order to confirm the presence and type of substances consumed.
During the search operation, police also recovered a small quantity of white powder, weighing approximately two grams, which is suspected to be a narcotic substance. The exact composition of the powder will be determined after forensic testing in a laboratory.
The individuals who tested positive reportedly told investigators that they had not consumed drugs at the farmhouse itself. According to police, they claimed the substances had been taken earlier at a different location before arriving at the gathering.
The incident has also triggered political reactions. The YSR Congress Party demanded action against Telugu Desam Party MP Putta Mahesh Kumar Yadav, who was reportedly present at the farmhouse during the raid.
Speaking to reporters in Tadepalli, former YSRCP MLA TJR Sudhakar Babu criticised the Telugu Desam Party and called on party chief N Chandrababu Naidu to take action against the MP. He alleged that attending such gatherings raised serious concerns about the conduct of public representatives.
Sudhakar Babu also accused the TDP of failing to address issues related to drugs and alcohol availability, using the incident to criticise the party’s leadership.
Police officials said that those present at the farmhouse described the gathering as a weekend networking event organised by Rohith Reddy. Meanwhile, authorities have launched further investigations into the matter.
As part of a broader crackdown on suspected narcotics activity, law enforcement agencies have begun conducting cordon-and-search operations at several farmhouses in the surrounding area. Intelligence units are also assisting in the investigation as officials attempt to determine whether the incident is linked to a larger network involved in drug distribution or consumption.
