A Visakhapatnam-to-Delhi IndiGo flight carrying 161 passengers triggered a full-scale emergency response at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport after reporting a suspected engine malfunction during its approach.
The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800 operating as flight 6E 579, alerted authorities shortly before landing, prompting immediate activation of emergency protocols. Runway 28 was placed on high alert, and multiple response teams, including fire services, were deployed in anticipation of a possible critical situation.
According to officials, information about the emergency was received at approximately 10:53 am, following which all relevant agencies were mobilised without delay. Fire tenders were positioned strategically, and the airport remained on standby to handle any potential complications.
Despite the concern over a possible engine issue, the aircraft landed safely at around 11 am. All passengers were evacuated without incident, and no injuries or damage were reported, indicating that the situation was handled effectively.
The airline later clarified that a technical issue had been identified shortly before landing. As a precautionary measure and in line with established safety procedures, the pilots requested priority landing clearance, which was granted promptly by air traffic control.
