A tourist bus carrying around 40 passengers met with a tragic accident after the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to crash into a large rock by the roadside and overturn. The mishap resulted in the death of at least five individuals.
According to police reports, the incident took place late on Friday night in the Nayagarh district of Odisha. The private bus was on an excursion trip, transporting passengers from Berhampur to Harishankar when the accident occurred. Authorities stated that the driver allegedly failed to maintain control, leading the bus to ram into a massive rock before flipping over.
Among those who lost their lives were the driver and four passengers, identified as Hari Patra, Laxmi Patra, Suprabha Sahu, and Sumati Sahu, all residents of Berhampur.
The force of the collision was extremely intense, causing several passengers to be thrown out of the vehicle upon impact. Additionally, more than ten individuals were trapped underneath the severely damaged bus.
Emergency response teams, including local police, fire service personnel, and ambulance units, quickly arrived at the scene and initiated an extensive rescue operation. Specialised equipment, such as gas cutters, was used to extricate those trapped inside the wreckage.
The injured victims were first taken to a nearby medical facility for immediate treatment. Due to the severity of their injuries, approximately 15 passengers in critical condition were later transferred to the District Headquarters Hospital for advanced care.
Police officials confirmed that a detailed investigation into the cause of the accident is currently in progress.
