As his mother supports his daughter in a property dispute, Jagan Reddy's family conflict intensifies

The internal dispute within the family of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has escalated sharply, moving from a private disagreement into a public and legal confrontation after his mother, Vijayamma, filed a notarised affidavit in court.

The conflict, which initially centred around claims by his sister YS Sharmila regarding her share in ancestral property, has now taken a more serious turn with Vijayamma openly backing her daughter’s position. In her affidavit, she stated that all assets held until the death of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy in 2009 were joint family properties and had never been formally divided.

She further asserted that YSR intended these assets to be distributed equally among the four grandchildren, and that this understanding was known within close circles. According to her, Jagan had earlier acknowledged Sharmila’s share through a Memorandum of Understanding, but failed to implement it fully. The affidavit claims that even under this arrangement, Sharmila received less than her rightful entitlement.

The document also points out that key assets, including Saraswati Cement and land in Yelahanka, were not included in the MoU despite being part of the family estate. Vijayamma clarified that payments made to Sharmila were only dividend income and not a complete settlement of her share.

In a strongly worded statement, Vijayamma accused Jagan of unfair treatment not only towards his sister but also towards the next generation. She indicated that he was aware of the facts and urged him to stop what she described as misleading narratives.

This development significantly intensifies the feud, placing Jagan at odds with both his sister and his mother, and adding a personal dimension to what could also have wider political implications.
