Former diplomat Taranjit Singh Sandhu is expected to assume charge as the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi on March 11, according to an official statement issued on Saturday. His appointment marks a key administrative transition in the national capital.
Earlier, President Droupadi Murmu appointed Sandhu as the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, replacing V. K. Saxena, who has served in the role for nearly four years. Officials indicated that Saxena will formally hand over responsibilities next week, with Sandhu likely to take charge on Wednesday.
The appointment forms part of a broader reshuffle of gubernatorial and lieutenant gubernatorial positions across several states and Union Territories, carried out by the President late Thursday night as part of administrative reassignments.
Sandhu is a 1988-batch officer of the Indian Foreign Service and is widely regarded as one of India’s most experienced diplomats in matters relating to the United States. Over his career, he has held multiple assignments at the Indian Mission in Washington, DC, and has played a significant role in strengthening bilateral relations.
The swearing-in ceremony is expected to be attended by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta along with members of the Delhi Council of Ministers and other senior officials.
