Thousands of women and students in Maharashtra marked International Women’s Day with a large-scale, synchronised Lezim performance that entered the record books. A total of 9,111 participants performed together in perfect coordination, creating a new Guinness World Record and turning the traditional folk exercise into a landmark cultural moment.
The record-setting event was held in Thane district near Mumbai, where women and schoolgirls from Dombivli and Kalyan talukas assembled on Sunday to present the coordinated routine. Their collective performance surpassed the earlier benchmark set in Sangli district and demonstrated both cultural pride and disciplined teamwork on a massive scale.
The attempt took place at the Shri Sant Savlaram Sports Complex in Dombivli, which saw the participation of hundreds of students and women from across the district. All 9,111 performers executed the Lezim routine simultaneously, establishing a new global record through unified timing, movement precision, and sustained coordination.
The programme was jointly organised by Dombivlikar Ek Sanskruti Parivar and the Kalyan Taluka Physical Education Committee under the guidance of BJP state president and MLA Ravindra Chavan. Officials noted that the earlier record had been created in Sangli district, where 7,338 women had performed together in a similar event.
Guinness World Records representative Swapnil Dangrekar, who was present to oversee the attempt, confirmed that the new performance had exceeded the previous mark. He stated that the earlier Sangli record had officially been broken and that participants maintained synchronisation for nearly five and a half minutes while performing structured Lezim sequences.
Following verification, Dangrekar presented the official world record certificate and medal to Suhasini Ravindra Chavan in recognition of the achievement.
Addressing the gathering, Ravindra Chavan expressed gratitude to the participants and organisers for their efforts in making the event successful. He emphasised that Lezim holds an important place in Maharashtra’s cultural heritage and said preserving such traditions is a shared responsibility. He added that the initiative aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s emphasis on physical fitness and national strength, noting that the record reflected unity, discipline, and collective pride.
The occasion evolved into a large public celebration as residents gathered in significant numbers to witness the achievement. The venue resonated with the rhythmic sounds of Lezim instruments along with drums and cymbals, while the announcement of the record drew enthusiastic cheers and patriotic slogans from the crowd.
