If found guilty, punish the father of a suspected ISIS agent who was detained from UP

A terror probe has intensified following the arrest of Rizwan in Uttar Pradesh’s Kushinagar, with investigators examining his activities after his release from jail and his possible connections.

The arrest was carried out late Saturday in a joint operation by the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad and the Delhi Police Special Cell. Rizwan was subsequently taken on transit remand to Delhi for further interrogation.

His father, Nizamuddin, publicly distanced himself from the allegations, stating that if his son is found guilty, he should face punishment. Emphasising his faith in the law, he said his loyalty lies with the country and not with any wrongdoing.

According to Delhi Police, Rizwan was wanted in a case involving provisions of the Explosive Substances Act. Authorities also flagged that he had been making international calls, raising concerns about potential cross-border links.

Rizwan had earlier come under the radar of security agencies in 2016, when he was arrested by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad over alleged links with ISIS. He later spent several years in prison between 2017 and 2023 in connection with a blast case before being released.

Investigators now suspect that his activities may have continued even after his release. Following his time in jail, Rizwan reportedly relocated and started a fast-food business, which officials believe helped him maintain a low profile.

However, agencies are probing whether he was simultaneously involved in efforts such as influencing or recruiting individuals while appearing to lead a normal life. The focus of the investigation has now expanded to include his contacts, financial transactions, and any links to a wider network.

The case has once again highlighted concerns among authorities about how suspected operatives may attempt to blend into everyday settings while maintaining covert connections.
