Laughable allegations: In the midst of the passport dispute, Assam CM's wife retaliates at Gaurav Gogoi

Riniki Bhuyan Sharma strongly refuted allegations made by Congress leaders, asserting that neither she nor her family holds any foreign passports, assets, or business interests outside India, and describing the claims as baseless and fabricated.

In a post on X, she categorically denied owning properties in Dubai or having any overseas financial links, calling the accusations “laughable.” She also countered the आरोप by challenging Gaurav Gogoi to clarify questions regarding his own family, escalating the political exchange.

The controversy began after Pawan Khera and Gogoi alleged that Riniki possessed passports from multiple countries, including the UAE, Egypt, and Antigua and Barbuda, and had undeclared foreign assets. They further claimed that such holdings were not disclosed in the election affidavit of Himanta Biswa Sarma, raising legal and ethical concerns.

Responding in detail, Riniki and Sarma dismissed the allegations as politically motivated and based on manipulated or forged documents. She explained that her photograph had allegedly been superimposed onto unrelated documents, including a lost Egyptian passport, and pointed out inconsistencies such as incorrect formats, typographical errors, and invalid claims like treating a UAE Golden Visa as a passport.

Sarma also suggested that the timing of these allegations indicated an attempt to influence the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, alleging external interference and misinformation campaigns. He confirmed that legal action had been initiated against those making the claims.

Riniki’s response gained significant traction online, with many users and supporters sharing her clarification and questioning the intent behind the accusations. She maintained that the controversy was deliberately created to damage reputations ahead of the elections, framing it as both a personal attack and a political strategy.
