In a significant counter-terror operation, Punjab Police announced that it had dismantled a terror module linked to Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), with alleged backing from Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and suspected connections to extremist networks, including ISIS. The coordinated action, carried out by Amritsar Rural Police, Gurdaspur Police, and the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) in collaboration with central agencies, led to the arrest of two individuals believed to be part of the network.
Officials revealed that the module was being directed by a foreign-based handler, raising serious concerns about cross-border coordination and external support for terror activities within India. Senior police authorities described the operation as a “major breakthrough,” emphasising both the scale of the plot and the potential threat it posed to public safety and national security.
During the operation, law enforcement recovered a substantial cache of weapons and explosive materials. These included hand grenades, detonators, a push-to-talk timer system with coding mechanisms, a battery unit, and around one kilogram of high-explosive material packed with nails—components typically associated with improvised explosive devices. A communication device, including a walkie-talkie with trigger mechanisms, was also seized, indicating a level of planning and coordination aimed at executing high-impact attacks.
Investigators believe that the nature of the recovered materials points to preparations for attacks intended to disrupt peace and create widespread panic. A case has been registered under the relevant provisions of the Explosive Substances Act, and further inquiries are underway to trace both the operational network within India and its international linkages.
Authorities are now focusing on identifying additional associates, uncovering the full extent of the network, and determining any connections with other extremist groups. The development comes amid heightened security concerns in Punjab, especially following recent incidents of violence, prompting increased vigilance across sensitive and border areas.
