Video: Baloch rebels murder Pakistani soldiers in their first naval operation off the coast of Gwadar

The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for its first-ever maritime attack, marking a significant escalation in the long-running insurgency in Balochistan.

According to the group, the attack took place near Jiwani, close to the strategically important port city of Gwadar. BLA fighters, reportedly using a speedboat, opened fire with machine guns on a Pakistan Coast Guard patrol vessel operating near the Pakistan-Iran maritime boundary. The group claimed that three personnel were killed in the हमला.

This operation represents a notable shift in the BLA’s strategy. Traditionally focused on land-based insurgency, the group has now extended its operations into the maritime domain. In its statement, the BLA described the हमला as the beginning of a new phase, aimed at targeting what it calls exploitation of regional resources via sea routes.

The group also announced the formation of a naval wing, the “Hammal Maritime Defence Force,” which it described as a step toward building a broader maritime capability. Analysts view this development as a tactical evolution that could expand the conflict beyond inland areas into coastal and naval zones.

The location of the attack adds to its significance. Gwadar is a key node in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, making any security threat in the surrounding region particularly sensitive. Increased militant activity near such infrastructure raises concerns about both regional stability and economic projects tied to international investment.

In response, Pakistani authorities have intensified coastal security measures and initiated investigations. The incident signals a potential widening of the insurgency, with implications for maritime security in the Arabian Sea and along critical trade routes.
