140 poultry in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh, died as a result of wedding DJ noise, according to a lawsuit

An unusual incident in Sultanpur district has sparked concern after a wedding procession allegedly caused the death of around 140 chickens at a nearby poultry farm. The case has drawn attention not only for its unexpected nature but also for raising questions about the impact of high-decibel sound on animals and the need for regulating loud music during public celebrations.

The incident took place on April 25 in Dariyapur village, which falls under the Baldirai police station area. A baraat arriving from Ram Bhadra Purwa village in the Kudwar region was passing through the locality as part of a wedding celebration. As is common in such processions, a DJ system playing music at high volume accompanied the group, creating a festive atmosphere. However, as the procession moved through the village, it passed directly in front of a poultry farm owned by a local resident, Sabir Ali.

According to Ali’s complaint and statements from locals, the extremely loud music is believed to have startled the chickens, triggering panic within the enclosure. The birds reportedly began flapping and colliding with each other in distress, leading to chaos inside the farm. In the aftermath, approximately 140 chickens were found dead, with the deaths attributed to shock caused by the sudden and intense noise.

Following the incident, Sabir Ali approached the police and filed a formal complaint. Acting on this, Sub-Inspector Bharat Singh registered a case against the DJ operator, identified as Kavi Yadav, a resident of Parsipur in the Kudwar area. Authorities have begun an investigation to verify the exact cause of the deaths and assess whether the sound levels used during the procession exceeded permissible limits and directly contributed to the incident.

Police officials have indicated that they will examine all aspects, including witness statements, noise levels, and veterinary assessments, to determine accountability. The case has generated discussion in the local community about the broader consequences of loud music, especially in residential and rural settings where livestock and poultry are present.

The episode highlights a lesser-discussed aspect of noise pollution, drawing attention to how high-volume sound systems used in celebrations can affect not only human residents but also animals. It has prompted calls for stricter enforcement of sound regulations and greater awareness to prevent similar incidents in the future.
